I had insurance with USAA for a long time, mostly because it's what my Dad wanted me to have so as long as he was paying I figure he could spend what he wanted. However, when I took over payments on insurance I immedately dropped them. While I was a USAA insurance customer I had 2 accidents so my rate did a climb for 3 years then slowly descended for 3 years. 5 years out of my last accident I had a car stolen. It took USAA one month to cut a check for me. That was unacceptable. Additionally, they claimed that any modification done to the car was maintenance and not covered, even though I had asked them directly when I started modifing the car car what the deal was. USAA at that time told me that as long as I kept reciepts, any modifcation would be accounted for in the value of the car. To top it off it was a 2000 Civic Si and at the time it would have cost $15k to replace the car. They offered me $12k, I managed to get a little under $13k out of them. So I dropped USAA.
